Seer fish also known as Kingfish or Indo-Pacific king mackerel. It is found in around the Indian ocean and adjoining sea. Suramai in Marathi, Vanjaram in Tamil, Neimeen in Malylam are the local names of Seerfish. The fish is uniformly grey-silver in colour with a hint of grey spots creating a pattern unique to itself. The fleshy centre body when gets tapered towards both the ends. This fish is recognized for its extra lean protein to help fulfil your daily protein requirement. Seer fish is a delicacy in several regions of India. In Maharashtra this fish is called Surmai and in Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh, this fish is called “Vanjaram” and is usually the costliest variety available. They can be fried, grilled and made as curry.
